I'm reading the NYT Magazine cover story today, and found something so obliviously hypocritical, I almost couldn't believe it:
"By far the most common usage of the word 'gay' in middle schools is in the expression 'that's so gay,' a popular adolescent phrase that means something is dumb or lame."
What I find most amusing is how the writer talks about this usage of the word gay being so ingrained, teachers don't notice it. Gee, kind of like how no one notices the offensive use of "dumb" and "lame" anymore.
Perhaps the kids today can go back to some other old standbys like "crazy" and "retarded".
Hey, welcome to the outsiders club, where what you are is turned into the latest insult. And until you start speaking with some attention to the words you choose, shut up.
